The Heron

A grey heron stands where ground meets water. I encountered the bird on a morning walk, calm and unmoving, watching as people passed close by. It was at ease in solitude, observing people without anxiety and I found the behavior curious since animals normally shy away from others. It let me get very close for a photo, and I knew I wanted to turn it into a painting. Poised between land (reality) and water (emotions), the heron holds a state of perfect balance. The work asks whether beauty can be found in stillness, presence, and meditation.
